How is the look back period determined

There are six adaptive methods in Adaptive RSI, all works in the similar way. In ranging, sideways, swing, choppy, and oscillating market, the look back period tends to be shorter. In trending market, the period tends to be longer. The stronger trend, the longer period. The weaker trend, the shorter period. With this mechanism, in trending market, Adaptive RSI is less likely to change its direction so we can ride on the trend for longer time. And in ranging market, Adaptive RSI will change its direction more often so that we can either catch the upcoming trend early or catch each reversals in the market.

How to use Adaptive RSI indicator

Since Adaptive RSI is more sensitive to market condition change than conventional RSI, Adaptive RSI is a better indicator for over bought/sold strategies, and the levels should better be 80 and 20 rather than 70/30 in conventional RSI. I personally don't recommend to use Adaptive RSI as the only indicator for entry/exit. It should be used together with other indicators or price action. For example, we may determine the current market trend with EMA, and only buy at over sold in a bullish market and only sell at over bought in a bearish market. How Adaptive RSI indicator helps you trade success

Adaptive RSI is a versatile indicator. It can help all types of Forex traders, no matter you are trending follower, swing trader, or scalper. I will take several examples to show how Adaptive RSI can help to make your trading strategies.

For trending followers
When Adaptive RSI gives over bought/sold signal on the counter-trend direction, scale in your positions. There is good chance that the retrace is complete and will go back to the trend.

For swing trader
Open trade when Adaptive RSI gives over bought/sold signal.

For scalper
Plot Adaptive RSI on lower time frame such as M5 or M15, then open trade when Adaptive RSI gives over bought/sold signal.

Caveat
Don't forget to combine other technology with Adaptive RSI. Adaptive RSI is not holy grail.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Why the indicator failed to load and log message “DLL must be enabled”?

A: Adaptive RSI is written in C++ and use Windows DLLs, so DLL must be enabled to make the indicator work. Read this blog to learn how to enable DLL in MT4.

The DLL used in Adaptive RSI indicator is as safe as all other MT4 indicators written in MQL. The DLL only accesses data in MT4 sandbox.

Q: There are plenty of MT4 indicators sold in price $20~$30, isn't Adaptive RSI too expensive?

A: Definitely no. There are 6 adaptive methods in the indicator. Other vendor may create a single indicator for each method and sell it for $30, then to collect all 6 methods you need to pay $30*6=180. I have to say, the price of Adaptive RSI is too inexpensive, and the price may raise in the future.
